iMinistries is pleased to announce that we are now providing responsive website designs for churches and ministries.

We are excited to announce that we have implemented our latest free design for all of our customers! The design is called Jericho and we think it's really awesome. Why? Great question! One word...responsive.

    Definition of a Responsive Website

A web site crafted to use media queries with fluid proportion-based grids, to adapt the layout to the viewing environment. As a result, users across a broad range of devices and browsers will have access to a single source of content, laid out so as to be easy to read and navigate with a minimum of resizing, panning and scrolling.

    What Does That Mean?

It boils down to this. When you look at the Jericho website it will dynamically change the layout based on the type of device you are using. Give it a try. Open the website on a tablet or on a mobile phone. It's the same content, just formatted differently to fit that specific screen size. With this method there is no need for a separate mobile version of a website tailored to specific devices. This will display correctly on all devices.

MonMondayJanJanuary9th2012 How Buffer Shifted Me From a Social Consumer to Social Sharer
byTravis Hickox Tagged Social Media 0 comments Add comment

I am a former Hootsuite user and social consumer. Now I've become a social sharer. All because of my switch to Buffer.

When I began to use Buffer a few weeks ago, I made the shift from being someone who only reads tweets to someone who wants to provide useful content and interact with people through tweets.

    How It Works

I don't know if this happens to you, but when I find one item online that I want to share, I often find five. We all know that it isn't a good idea to blast out everything that you find all at once because it is a sure way to lose followers. That's why using something like Hootsuite is a great tool because it gives you the ability to space out your tweets. However, due to my workload, I don't really have time to log into Hootsuite and schedule a tweet.

Buffer, on the other hand, gives me the ability to click a button and add a tweet in a second. I don't have to log in to anything, I just hit a button and "bam" ... it's done. I also don't have to configure a date or time for my tweet to go out. That piece is already configured in my account settings inside of Buffer.

I have gone from finding items online and wanting to share, but not sharing due to fear of becoming annoying, to being able to load up tweets, knowing that only four are going to go out in a given day. I like having the opportunity to point out new things, promote our growing company, and promote others.

    Must Have Plugins

After I signed up to use Buffer, I immediately installed their plugins for Chrome, Firefox, and Twitter. Doing this made my experience that much better. If you are interested in trying their service out, I highly recommend doing this too.

    Signing Up

If you are interested in trying Buffer, do us both a favor and sign up using this Buffer referral link. By doing so, we both gain the ability to add an extra post to our Buffer.

Does Buffer interest you? If so, let us know in the comments below.

MonMondayNovNovember7th2011 Small and Large Churches Benefit from iMinistries Church Website CMS
byTravis Hickox Tagged No tags 0 comments Add comment

Another large church enjoys the flexibility and powerful features of the iMinistries Church Website CMS.

We partner with ministries of all sizes. In September, we launched the new Wheaton Bible Church website and couldn't be more proud of their team. They quickly understood the power and flexibility our Church Website Content Management System.

We were very impressed with the speed Liz Carver was able to set up their church website and have it ready for its public debut. She admitted her experience in using different church website content management systems, but none that were as intuitive and powerful as iMinistries.

Q: What are some factors that set us apart?
    Liz:
    • Ministries features: "Separate ministry calendars that feed to one site-wide calendar; blogs; photo galleries; everything!"
    • Great staff to work with!
    • Easy-as-pie back-end (CMS).
    • Customizable text areas on the website: "Incredibly helpful!"
    • Access to CSS: "So useful"
    • Flexibility of the CMS
Q: Did you compare us with other CMS's?
Liz: "Literally everyone else. I can't find my file where I compared them right now, but we looked at at least 50.

Q: How did you see iMinistries being a better web partner for your organization, compared to other CMS's?

Liz: "They're flexible, understanding, 'normal,' have better business practices, are constantly updating things and are forward-thinking. Best possible partners for us."

    Q: Anything else?

    Liz: "I'm clearly obsessed."
Here's your chance to make a shift from manually updating your church website code, or being frustrated with your current Church CMS provider, to using an affordable and powerful church website content management system. Stop wondering who uses iMinistries and start your trial today.

SatSaturdayOctOctober1st2011 New Ministry Website for Harvest Bible Chapel

Long time ministry partner Harvest Bible Chapel has launched a new ministry website using the iMinistries Church Website Content Management System (CMS). They call it Harvest 5G

Harvest wanted site visitors to be able to pray for their staff members. To accomplish that, we used our new ToolTip which creates a simple hover affect. We populated it with additional details about each staff member. It provides a great user experience.

We also created a page for them which displays a lot of great media that they produce using our Light box. In this screen shot, we have selected one of the videos from their Senior Pastor, James MacDonald.

It was a great project to work on and we are excited to see how they continue to use their website for the Glory of the Lord.
FriFridayAugAugust26th2011 iMinistries Church Website Content Management System Version 1.5 is Coming

Mozilla Firefox updated their browser to version 6 two weeks ago. While Firefox is one of our favorite and most used web browsers, this update created a few issues within our Content Management System. We were happy to report that the update to Firefox did not affect how people viewed or even interacted with your website. However, it severely affected Site Administrators.

After reviewing the various issues, it became apparent to us that a major update would have to be worked on. You might say that the iMinistries CMS is growing up. Next week we will be releasing iMinistries 1.5. This release will happen on August 29th.

Calling it 1.5 isn’t by accident. For the last several months, we have been working on an even bigger release to our system that we refer to as 2.0. This will be a game changer and we can’t wait to unveil it. We will begin to update you on those developments later in the year.

In the meantime, we hope you enjoy the improvements we’ve made with this release. Many of them are under the hood. However, a few will be noticeable improvements to how our system functions. Below are a few of note.

    Browser Support

This is our biggest update and the one we are most happy about. From the public perspective, iMinistries websites have always worked in the major web browsers. We test every website in Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari. From an admin perspective however, this wasn’t always the case. A few key features in the editor didn’t function as expected so we couldn’t say that we supported all major browsers within Site Administration. This is no longer the case! With this release, you can make updates to your website using Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome or Safari.

As always, we recommend that you keep your web browser up to date (we’re talking to you, Internet Explorer 6 users!). Check out http://browsehappy.com/ as it lists all the current web browsers and provides links for download.

    Images

    • Upload multiple files at one time using the revised image uploader.
    • Edit images using the Image Editor. This new feature gives you the ability to:
      • Change image opacity.
      • Crop images.
      • Adjust image orientation .
      • Adjust the image size.
      • Control the margin on each side of an image.

Be careful as you can easily over write your original image.

    Content Editor

    • Full screen editing mode. No more distractions when editing your website. When enabled, the editor will take over your entire screen. Click the button again and it will be reduced to its original size.
    • Paragraph styles now displays the font, color and size which makes it easier to choose.

    Ministries

    • We’ve given you the ability to highlight a ministry.
    • In an upcoming release you will be able to add a thumbnail too.

    Support

Before we close, we have one request. In a word, this update was extreme. As always, we will be monitoring the error logs to try and fix bugs before they become wide spread. While we have tested everything quite extensively, if you experience a bug simply go to  http://support.iministries.org and submit a ticket. When you do, be descriptive. Here is how.

    Example

    • The URL that the error occurred on - "http://www.iministries.org/ContentEdit.aspx?type=A&site_id=10267&organization_id=0&parent_id=0"
    • What were you doing - "I was trying to create an Ad."
    • The browser, version and operating system - "I was using Firefox 6 on a Mac."
    • What happened - "When I hit save, the page said <and you can copy and paste in the error message that is provided>"
As always, thank you for your support.
    iMinistries

Long time customer Harvest Bible Chapel of North Phoenix recently made a huge improvement to the look and feel of their church websites design.

They began by selecting one of our latest designed free church website skins that we offer Bethsaida, and customized it by adding in their own custom CSS via their control panel. That effort and time that they spent on creating beautiful graphics for the home page and ministry page headers has paid off in spades as their site looks excellent! Our hats are off them them.

"Thanks for being easy to work with in setting up our new site. iMinistries has done an excellent job at making it easy to manage and tweak our website."
We would love to hear from you, chime in with a comment on what you think below.

MonMondayAugAugust1st2011 Jeff Schwartzentraub: Your Church Website Promotes Your Brand [Video]
Having strong a brand can be as important for churches and ministries as they are for small businesses and global conglomerates. Strong branding means your name, logo, and imagery remind your seekers and ministry members what you stand for--whether its for world missions, reaching urban youth, or preaching the truth of God's Word.

Your church website can be a key component in establishing and promoting those brand values. Jeff Schwartzentraub of Harvest Bible Chapel Denver recently expressed how the brand of his ministry, OneHeartbeat, was impacted by utilizing iMinistries' Church Website CMS. He was so impressed, he even had us design a brand new logo along with business cards, letterhead and remittance envelopes. It was an awesome branding project to be apart of, and so was working with Jeff and Aaron Carnahan.

    Video Transcript

"Hey I'm Jeff Schwartzentraub, Senior Pastor of Harvest Bible Chapel Denver and President and founder of OneHeartbeat.

I wanted to let you know that working with iMinistries has been a tremendous blessing to us. In moving to Denver, Colorado we knew virtually nobody and our web presence has been incredible for us not only just to tell people about who we are, but to post messages and just working with iMinistries has been tremendous. Working with Travis and David have been so helpful to us to quickly securing a very positive, clear and clean site. It lets people know who we are and what we are about.

So for Harvest Denver and OneHeartbeat, the logo, the crispness and what we are able to do has been tremendous and it has been a huge blessing to people finding our ministries, being able to engage with us, and it has been a tremendous blessing to work with iMinistries.

MonMondayJunJune27th2011 Pastor John Cox: Church Websites Explain Who You Are [Video] Church websites are a valuable tool for explaining your mission, values, and your church to prospective visitors. John Cox, Senior Pastor at Harvest Bible Chapel Carson Tahoe in Nevada, shared with us how this is true for his church through his iMinistries website.

    Video Transcript

Today, in our age, one of the biggest things that we need is a solid website and one areas that we have done as a church in Carson/Tahoe, Nevada is to able to have a website through iMinistries, which has been able to not only proclaim the gospel through its website, but to direct people to exactly who we are and what we preach and what we stand for.

When people come to our website they are able to access everything from our sermons to all of our doctrine. its ease of accessibility has allowed people to not only hear the truth before they come, but to understand and really visually see what the church is about before they even step through the door.

It's been a blessing to be with iMinistries. We see them as a partner in our ministry of the proclamation of the Gospel. And we are thoroughly thrilled to be able to take that next step as iMinistries grows we know our church will grow, as well, in the proclamation of Truth.

We caught up with Eric Helliwell, worship leader at Harvest Bible Chapel Muskoka (Canada) and asked how his iMinistries church website has helped their ministry. Not only did Eric rave about how easy it is to use, even for non-technical people, he talked about how important posting sermons are to spreading the gospel.

    Video Transcript

"We love iMinistries for many different reasons. One of the reasons is because it is so functional, it's so easy for someone like me who isn't necessarily great with computers to make different things on our website that are accessible to our church.

Specifically sermons is an area that has been a blessing to us, because we have a family that is not able to attend our church on a weekly basis, but they've been able to following the sermon updates on a weekly updates on the website, and they've just loved it. They have been just blessed and growing in Christ. And it's been such a valuable thing to our ministry."

While there, we were able to ask them how their website has made their ministry more effective and how important they feel it is to have a great church website. This 40 second video is from Senior Pastor, Jeff Miller from Harvest Bible Chapel Pittsburgh North who just came on board with us a few months ago. He had this to say...

    Video Transcript

"Churches today have to have a website, you have to have a website...it's not even an option, you have to have a website.

So when I talked to iMinistries about putting a website together for Harvest Bible Chapel Pittsburgh North, I said I wanted something clean, easy to navigate through, something very aesthetically appealing, and iMinistries hit a home run.

I was completely thrilled with the way the website turned out. I have gotten so many compliments on it and it has been a tremendous hub for our church. The people can access, get the news, see what's going on, understand our doctrine. It is a tool in ministry that you have to have and iMinistries really delivers.

MonMondayFebFebruary14th2011 How Does Your Church Communicate? I was adding a comment to a website recently. The blogger posed the question, "How does your church provide announcements to your congregation each week". As I got closer to completing my answer, I realized that I was getting more passionate. Not mad or anything, just passionate so it prompted me to write this.

1 new way and 2 common presentations of weekly announcements.

    1. One idea is to have your announcements presented to congregants via video each week. I visited a church recently who did this and I have to admit, it was very cool. However, not every church has the appropriate staffing or equipment to get this done. Also, I might have liked it simply because it was something new. I would be curious to learn that if I experienced it week in and out, if I would still feel the same way.

    2. Another idea is to send out e-mail announcements each week. Um...no. This is a big time #fail in my opinion. How many e-mails do you get each day? I don't want to count how many I get, but I know I am constantly deleting e-mails that come in that I don't have time for or care to read. How many more people are out there that do the same thing as me? I can't be alone.

    3. The trusty bulletin. I am sorry...will you think less of me or think that I am not a true Believer if I tell you that I avoid getting that handed to me each week? It's true. I think it is a waste of a lot of the church staff's time, ultimately affecting the bottom line and ministry effectiveness. I think that I would be fine with it if it simply provided the message outline. But when I see everything else on it, I can hear the Peanuts teacher talking to Charlie Brown as I read.

    Solution

I realize that this could heavily depend on your churches demographics, (for those of you who can't read between the lines, I am saying not "full of age") but the way I see the best use of everyone's (church staff and congregant) time would be to put less focus on the bulletin and more on the way the church staff communicates online.
    1. I would drastically reduce the bulletins prominence.
      • Grant your designer (hired or volunteer) some quality time to come up with a compelling front cover that ties in the current sermon series or the theme of the ministry year.
      • On the back, provide the church's contact information, website address, RSS feed URL's and the budget numbers
      • Have an insert for those note takers out there with the sermon outline.

    2. I would drastically increase the websites prominence.
      • Communicate to your staff that you are going to be hitting a nail pretty hard to the congregants. Explain that 95% of all future communication is going to come via your website. At first, this is going to take:
        • Buy in from the top leadership to grant you time to get this implemented and working.
        • Determination on your part, to do the above.
        • Determination on your staffs part, to do the above.
        • Patience with your congregation, to do the above.
        • Discernment. Why discernment? The advent of great technologies birthed the idea that everything happens instantaneously and perfectly. This is rarely the case. You will need discernment as you will probably get a few people complaining to you that they liked the old way better. Trust me, it's going to happen.
      • Have a "Did you know" section of your website telling your congregants how to get the most from your website.
      • Create some Ads to appear directing people to the above section.
      • RSS Feeds. If you don't know what that is, please read Wikipedia's description on RSS and continue reading. Our Church CMS is set up in such a way that your Site Level News, Events and Blogs all have their own independent RSS feed URL's and so does each Ministry that you create. This means that if your staff is plugging in the information that was in the bulletin each week in their section of your website, your RSS feeds would be filled with timely information. If you do this, you will have begun to turn that huge flywheel that is storing tons of energy. It is crazy hard to get moving, but once it is, it is quite simple.
      • If you aren't, I would really put some effort into getting your pastors message online and include the sermon notes. If I was going to your site, I would want to have a way to filter your weekly messages by topic, book and speaker. If you had both the audio and video I would be even more happy. Video for when I have time to watch, audio for when I am on the go.
While the crowd is silent and unsure of this new information, Travis confidently steps off stage left awaiting each readers response and future understanding.

I want your feedback, please chime in!

MonMondayJanJanuary3rd2011 The Importance of Your Logo

Creating a great logo is amazingly difficult. Creating a great logo that someone wants to talk about is entirely different.

When I found the article, 50 Fantastically Clever Logos, I was blown away. To me, every logo found in this blog post is beautiful, clever, and communicates something. What do I mean by communicating something? These logos tell me:
    • They pay attention to great design. Their product/service probably does too.
    • They are intelligent and value intelligence. When you investigate each logo, there are two (or more) meanings to be taken away.
    • Their product/service is polished. Anyone that pays this kind of detail to their logo should also be doing the same with their product.
    • I am going to pay them whatever they demand. In my mind, before even knowing what they offer, I have already decided that their product/service is clearly a cut above!
Now, maybe they don't do or provide quality stuff. The only way I am going to find out is by conducting my own research. But, already, I feel that they have won a big battle--they have got me to check them out without spending one more dime of their advertising budget.

I realize that church and ministries do not have the budget that businesses do. But it still begs the question, "What are you communicating with your logo?"

MonMondayDecDecember20th2010 Does It Move You Forward?

Keeping up with the technology "Joneses" doesn't necessarily mean that  your church website is affective.

I recently read an article from Chris Brogan's website titled, "Is it Moving You Forward" and thought that I should share a little snippet from it.
I'm not using paper to write any "daily whatevers." I'm not using Quora to answer questions. I haven’t tried that new Twitter client. In fact, I'm not doing a LOT of things.

I have a very simple question to answer each time: will this move me forward?
With that in mind, something that I think we all should consider on a weekly basis comes from 1 Corinthians 10:23-24.
"All things are lawful," but not all things are helpful. "All things are lawful," but not all things build up.
Just like in our spiritual lives, the same principles can be applied to your ministry or church website. While we use and have promoted the use of Twitter and Facebook in these two blog entries:
you must be the one who measures its effectiveness and if you should continue to foster the relationships that it brings in. While we have seen an increased interaction with our customers by doing Twitter and Facebook, we have to do an even better job of evaluating its effectiveness. Maybe after a solid effort (over a years time), we set it aside these technologies and/or trends, and focus our attention elsewhere. I will even take this a step further and say that we refocus our energy back on our core competencies. This is something that Dave McCall does really well, but it's an area that I am lacking in.

Tell us...has using Twitter and Facebook been advantageous for you? If so, how do you know? What success stories have you seen?

Selecting the right church website provider is important.

Our latest customer, Harvest Bible Chapel of Barrie, Ontario, did their research and moved their church website over to the iMinistries Church CMS from Clover.

Once their website was live, we asked them why they decided to switch. They told us that they were looking to save money, and liked that we offer so many features right out of the box. They were also excited about getting an iPhone app for their church.

We also asked them what they thought of working with us to bring their website to life. They told us that they loved our project management and thought that we were very professional and timely. They also appreciated that we provided helpful insights to them along the way.

Harvest Bible Chapel - Portland Maine, selects iMinistries for their new church website!

It was a pleasure to work with Senior Pastor Bill Foss to get their new church website setup on the iMinistries Church CMS. Like everyone, he wanted to be sure that his church website truly reflected the region in which the Lord has placed them in. We were able to get this design accomplished because our designer was humble enough to learn from Bill what truly represented Portland, Maine instead of creating a design based on a mid-westerner's point of view.

Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is opposite Jericho. And the LORD showed him all the land ... And the LORD said to him, "This is the land of which I swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, 'I will give it to your offspring.' I have let you see it with your eyes, but you shall not go over there." (Deuteronomy 34:1-4)

We have to be honest ... the reason why we named this skin Nebo is because we think it is a fun word to say.

MonMondaySepSeptember27th2010 What's the Cost of a Free Church Website?

Is the cost of using a Church CMS to run your church website more or less expensive than a free alternative?

Have you, individually or as a part of a team, put together a website for yourself, club, church, or business? If so, you know that there are several pieces to the website puzzle. Below are a few things that you either have encountered or you will encounter when setting up a website.
    • Getting a domain(s)
    • Deciding which alternative(s) to use
    • Developing a relationship with all of the new vendors
    • Hosting
    • DNS
    • Learning how to use your website
    • Launching the website
    • Maintaining the website

Ok, now let's talk about the easy things that are here.

    1. Get a domain
Getting a domain is fairly painless. We typically recommend using http://domainsmadeeasy.com/.

Hmmm...that's about it. Now let's talk about the "not so easy" things.

    1. If you aren't going with a Church website CMS like ours, then who? Some think of using Joomla, Wordpress, or some other open CMS.
    2. You are going to have to get server space so that people can view your website. Where are you going to host it? There are probably a few hundred hosts out there and their fees range from $5 - $15 per month. How reliable are they? Do they hold the same values that you hold? Did you know that our cheapest plan starts at just $39 and that includes all of these great features and includes hosting?
    3. Do you even know what DNS is? Here is what Wikipedia says about Domain Name System. You have to know how to edit your DNS settings so that people can find your website, send you e-mail as well as protect against spam!
    4. Do you have a plan on knowing how to use your new ministry tool? What about a plan for your staff? We provide you with a support website that has videos and written documentation as well as a way for you to submit your question(s) so that you can get it answered.

We can admit that using something like Joomla is a nice alternative.

Unless of course you don't have someone in your church body that:
    • Is tech savy.
    • You know isn't going to pick up and leave, either because of a job change or a disagreement with church leadership.
    • Is single and sits at home all hours of the day and night just waiting for your input on how you would like your website to look and work. Yeah..because that is realistic/sustainable/healthy. :-)

We can also admit that WordPress is another nice alternative that can be of good use.

However, what if you wanted to do more than just have a site that is a blog or maybe a few other pages about your ministry? What if you wanted to:
Some of the things that we are mentioning here can be found and implemented with both of Joomla and WordPress...but that's just it...you have to find them and then you have to "bolt them onto" your website. With iMinistries, all of these things are all built in ready for you to activate and use.

Should Believers in the Lord Jesus Christ be willing to gamble?

If we were betting men and women, we wouldn't get nervous betting on you wanting a church website that is visually appealing, affordable and extremely flexible. One of the many great features of the iMinistries Church CMS is the ability to change your look and feel with ease. Harvest Bible Chapel of Granger, Indiana has done just that by purchasing the Malta Premium Skin for $75.

Take a look at the Before and After screenshots below. Yesterday, their website looked like Before. Today, their website looks like After. Here are a few reasons why this is so important.
    1. Time/Cost Savings
Because of the iMinistries skin feature, there wasn't a need to recreate a new church website. They simply had to choose a different skin and click save!
    2. Training
By remaining an iMinistries customer and changing their skin, the staff doesn't have to relearn how to manage their church website using a new CMS. The back end tools remain the same, so they can continue to post news, blog posts, and so much more.
When they made the switch to using the Malta Premium Skin, they also purchased the ability to collect Event Registrations by Fellowship One.

In today's economic times, if you were to ask any church leader what their highest needs are, they would say additional staff, more money, and more time in each day.

Harvest Bible Chapel of North Indianapolis, Indiana has been a customer of iMinistries since fall 2007. A little over a month ago, their website and newsletter administrator LiaAnn Ellis contacted us to discuss upgrading their look. They were interested in getting a custom design for their website created, but after investigating our website more, she uncovered our new Premium Skins for only $75.

She reported that after showing her leadership team this design, they wanted to move forward, saving thousands of dollars and time. Just like anyone, they were curious to know if they could make a few tweaks to this design to make it their very own. LiaAnn presented us with a few mock ups that she created and after we reviewed them and coming to a mutual agreement, we were able to implement their design choices.

I’d be remiss to not thank Travis and David both for all the work and help you gave throughout these couple of weeks. It was a ridiculously short turnaround and I would not have been able to help make it happen if you both had not been so quick in responding and making edits as necessary to the code. The skin is amazing; the tweaks done to make it more personalized are amazing! It is definitely clear that IMinistries is gifted in furthering Kingdom work by helping others further their Kingdom work!

Truly, the process was easy, the timing was great, and the quick help was awesome. Not to mention, I learned a ton about your CMS which will really help me later on when I add new content!

We love having great relationships with so many of our customers. A long standing relationship has been forged with Tim Buczek of Hilltown Baptist Church. They have used the iMinistries Church CMS to run their church website for several years now. For the first couple of years, they used a few different free skins that we offer, but recently decided to upgrade to one of our new Premium skins. After working with Tim to change the skin, Tim redesigned his banners and created a rotating advertisement for his home page using our Rotator feature.

Take a look at the transformation below.

    iMinistries Crew,

Thanks so much for the newest look for our site! You guys provide a great balance of flexibility and structure. I can't build a site from the ground up, but love the ability to be creative and personalize what we want.

I love the new Premium Skin. It's slick and modern, easy on the eyes, easy to navigate, and still leaves a lot of potential for us to develop at time and demand grows.

Love working with you guys! Looking forward to the next opportunity.

SunSundayAugAugust1st2010 Harvest Bible Chapel - Carson Tahoe Having the ability to update your own website is a must. Harvest Bible Chapel Carson Tahoe pastor Jon Cox was sold on using the iMinistries Church CMS because it gives him both the creative and contextual control that he was looking for. As soon as he saw the new Sinai Premium skin, he felt it captured the woodsy, rustic look of Carson City.

Jon has done an excellent job of using his church website to engage his future congregants both visually and textually.

Because of a glowing recommendation from Jeff Terrell of Harvest Bible Chapel Kansas City, Masters Seminary theological professor Greg Harris came to us asking for help. After having four different websites that promoted his growing library of published books as well as a blog, he wanted to consolidate everything into one website. More importantly, he wanted to have better control of editing the content on his website.

It certainly proves that word of mouth is clearly the best advertising...thanks Jeff!

In customary fashion, after launching each website we like to get feedback so that we can learn from each one of our customers. This is what Dr. Harris had to say:
I highly recommend iMinistries. They have been wonderfully knowledgeable about web design, and wonderfully patient with me who knows so little about it. There is nothing that I am aware where they did not follow through on what they told me--and often very quickly. There design was superb and professionally done.

Now that we have done our updated website, I cannot imagine doing it with anyone else.

MonMondayJulJuly5th2010 Is Your Homepage Attractive? Part 5: Ads

    5. Ads

In the past few blogs, we explored how to improve the look of your homepage by writing compelling content, adding thumbnails and highlights, and by creating a custom scrolling header. In this blog, we'll explain how ads can be the finishing touch on the first page your visitors see.

The goal of your homepage is to "convert" your vistor--to convince them to stay on your site longer, see what your ministry has to offer, and hopefully visit your ministry in person or contact you for more information. One way to do this is to show them what's happening with you. You can do this on a large scale with scrolling headers, but you can also do this by creating and uploading ads.

Just like a business would use advertisements in newspapers, billboards, or television, you can advertise your upcoming events, latest news, podcasts, or blogs in the same way. The goal is the same--to get your audience to buy what you're selling. In this case, you are selling your ministry and your ministry website's offerings.

On your iMinistries website, you have a designated place where ads will display, depending on your skin. Most ads show above highlights in the right column. And with iMinistries Rotator feature, you can easily add scrolling ads to maximize the use of this space.

    Step 1:
Create your ads to "sell" the content of your choice.
Step 2: Make a Rotator, add slides, upload your images, and link them to your content.
Step 3: In your site's Content Administration, use the Widget feature to add your Rotator as a ad.

"So David triumphed over the Philistine with a sling and a stone; without a sword in his hand he struck down the Philistine and killed him." (1 Samuel 17:50)

This skin was originally called Minimalist, because of its simplicity, clean lines, and neutral color scheme. We now call it Elah, after the Valley of Elah, where David fought and defeated Goliath. Against the Philistine giant, David used the most simple weapons, five smooth stones and a slingshot. A reminder that it's not always about the tools you use, but how effectively you use them.

"Before very long, a wind of hurricane force, called the 'northeaster,' swept down from the island. The ship was caught by the storm  ... struck a sandbar and ran aground. The bow stuck fast and would not move, and the stern was broken to pieces by the pounding of the surf ... [the centurion] ordered those who could swim to jump overboard first and get to land. Once safely on shore, we found out that the island was called Malta." (Acts 27:14-28:1)

Formerly called Watercolor, for obvious reasons, we renamed this skin after the island where Paul shipwrecked on his way to Rome. The subtle artistic touches, like brushstroke textures and typography and graphics that look hand-drawn, are perfect for a ministry seeking an "artsy" feel.

MonMondayJunJune21st2010 Is Your Homepage Attractive? Part 4: Custom Header

    4. Header

Your ministry website's header is your place to grab your visitor's attention. Since its placement is most prominent on your homepage, your header can be used for several things:
    • To advertise your upcoming ministry events
    • To link to your About pages (Our Beliefs, Service Times, etc.)
    • To let visitors know about your site's blogs and podcasts
Using iMinistries' Rotator feature, you can create a scrolling header for your homepage that can do all these things.

    Step 1:
Create your banner images to advertise the content of your choice.
Step 2: Make a Rotator, add slides, upload your images, and link them to your content.
Step 3: In your site's Content Administration, use the Widget feature to add your Rotator as a header.

Now your site visitors can see what your ministry is all about, and what's currently going on, from the second they get there. And in the Web world, every second counts.

"In the third month after the Israelites left Egypt—on the very day—they came to the Desert of Sinai ... and Israel camped there in the desert in front of the mountain." (Exodus 19:1-2)

The background for this skin is a rustic wood paneling, uses dark graphics, and features edgy typography. This made us think of the harsh wilderness where Moses and the Israelites spent 40 years on their journey to the promised land. The bold, modern look is ideal for a ministry on the cutting edge.

MonMondayJunJune7th2010 Is Your Homepage Attractive? Part 3: Adding Highlights

    3. Highlights

Are you using Highlights effectively? Do you even know what a Highlight is? Every page should have at least one Highlight on it. Why?
    • Because they provide additional points of interest
    • Because they provide additional imagery to break up the text
    • Because they make your website appear more dynamic, even if you don't have someone maintaining your website, by using the "Random Highlight" option
    • Because they make your website look more filled with content
    • Because they provide additional cross links, which makes you look better to search engines
    • Because they provide additional navigational links, which help your users find more information

TueTuesdayJunJune1st2010 Harvest Bible Chapel - Muskoka Harvest Bible Chapel in Muskoka, Ontario recently came back to iMinistries after a short sabbatical. After initially signing on with iMinistries, Harvest Muskoka left for a local company, then tried the CMS Clover, before deciding to return to us. Harvest Muskoka staff raved about our "quick customer service" and that our websites come loaded with pre-built pages for easy start-up, which wasn't the case with their last two providers.

The church went with an iMinistries Premium skin, which includes the addition of their logo and the customization of social media links, all for $75.

We are super excited about our new website! We made the switch because we were finding that our previous [Clover] website was not very interactive or useful ... whereas [our iMinistries website] is almost limitless as far as functionality and ... [is] easier for everyone to connect with what's happening at Harvest Muskoka ... because a lot is happening!!
FriFridayMayMay28th2010 Harvest Bible Chapel - Brampton Harvest Bible Chapel in Brampton, Ontario has been a customer for over a year and just upgraded their church website from a free skin to one of our new premium skins (they choose Malta).

By choosing a Premium skin, we added Harvest Brampton's logo and linked the skin's social media icons to their desired destination.

Harvest Brampton's Jameson Evendon, Worship Ministry Coordinator explains why they changed skins and what makes iMinistries stand out among other church CMS.

Why did you want to re-skin your site?
"A church's website is an important part of their profile with visitors and potential visitors, as well as regular attenders. Harvest Brampton has been on the map for less than a year, so we want to take extra care with our website to be sure we are communicating clearly and effectively with our community. Our website was functional, but it was very plain looking, and didn't communicate effectively what our church was like. We elected to re-skin our site in order to give visitors to our site a more accurate portrayal of what our church was like, and to make our website one which you would want to come back to."

Why did you chose to go with iMinistries' Premium skins? Why Malta in particular?
"We wanted a skin that not many other websites were using. Upon researching other Harvest Bible Chapel websites, we discovered that they were all using a similar template. At first we thought it might be better for us to use the same template, but when we learned that there was a new skin available, we were intrigued. When we saw the Malta skin, we loved it right away. It was the perfect mix of color and readability, and it brought our site that unique look."

What was your reaction to seeing the new site with the new skin?
"When it came up with all our graphics in place, it looked great! It was leaps ahead from our last website skin. I probably visited the site a dozen times a day for the first few days, just to look at it. We loved it."

How would you describe iMinistries' customer service?

"I was impressed at how accessible iMinistries' customer service is. It's easy to get a hold of someone for a troubleshooting issue, and any e-mails or Basecamp messages are replied to very quickly. We were also impressed at how iMinistries went the extra mile to have a look around our site for potential improvements and brought those to our attention, in order to better serve our people. It could have been a cold install of a new skin, but instead they showed they really care about their customers."

"I was impressed at how accessible iMinistries' customer service is ... they really care about their customers."

MonMondayMayMay24th2010 Is Your Homepage Attractive? Part 2: Adding Thumbnails

    2. Thumbnails

If you are not adding thumbnails to the content that you post on your church website, you are missing a step that is a total game changer for how your website looks. I don't want to say that this is the most common thing people miss, but it is a big one. Check out the difference between our previous blog entry and the one below. They have the exact same pieces of information in them but this one has thumbnails.

Thumbnails make your content "pop" off the page. The images break up the chunks of text so your homepage is more pleasing to the eye. They also give a visual representation to your content that your users can more easily identify with. Pictures speak a thousand words, remember?

"In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha ... who was always doing good and helping the poor. About that time she became sick and died, and her body was washed and placed in an upstairs room. ... Peter sent them all out of the room; then he got down on his knees and prayed. Turning toward the dead woman, he said, 'Tabitha, get up.' She opened her eyes, and seeing Peter she sat up. He took her by the hand and helped her to her feet. Then he called the believers and the widows and presented her to them alive. This became known all over Joppa, and many people believed in the Lord." (Acts 9:36-42)

In the background of the header for this skin, blurry spots of light sharpen into focus. This effect reminded us of when Peter brought Tabitha back to life in Acts, so we named this skin Joppa, in tribute to the place where this early church miracle occurred.

We hope a website with this skin will help you proclaim the Good News to your community just as Peter did in Joppa.

MonMondayMayMay10th2010 Is Your Homepage Attractive? Part 1: Content As we've said before, having a great website is more than just fancy images and flashy bells and whistles. The same goes for having an attractive homepage. So how can you make your church website's homepage more attractive to its visitors? Follow us step-by-step through this five part series.

    1. Content

Being visually appealing can make or break your website, but the real killer is your written content and how often it changes. While graphics can either pull people in or turn them away from your church website, how can anyone ever find you if Google, Bing, or Yahoo never visit you because there is no information for them to consume? And how will you keep people coming back if there is no information for them to consume?

You need written content on your website's homepage that is dynamic, always up-to-date, and is constantly-changing. Adding the News, Events, or even Blog Widgets to your homepage will make a dramatic difference in how your website looks, both to visitors and search engines.

In the example above, you can see that there are two news items, two events, and a latest blog entry from this website. This is an excellent start, especially because the content shows on the home page by a dynamic feed, or what we call the News, Events, and Blog Widget. Any time that there is a new item added to the News, Events, or Blogs Administration panel, they will update the home page.

FriFridayMayMay7th2010 Harvest Bible Chapel - Denver Harvest Bible Chapel Denver has now been planted and they too selected the iMinistries powerful church content management system to run their website. We won't clutter up this blog post with our thoughts for we think this quote says it all. Thank you Jeff! May the Lord bless Harvest Bible Chapel Denver in ways that prove that it is not man who does the work, but Jesus Christ!

    Travis, David, and iMinistries team,

Thank you so much for your dedication, time, and effort of building a great site for our church. Your artistic abilities, timeliness, competitive pricing, and comprehensive approach were first class all the way.

Working with iMinistries was a tremendous blessing. A functional and sharp website is very important and yet most of us do not have the expertise or the language to describe exactly what we want. During this project, everyone on staff took the time to help me understand the process and made me feel like my project was of the utmost importance. The entire staff worked very promptly to get our website completed and beyond our expectations.

Having worked with other web designers in the past who use their level of expertise to overcharge, procrastinate, and make you feel inferior, I was nervous about this project. To my great delight I found working with the staff a great encouragement. I would highly recommend iMinistries to anyone who desires affordable web pricing, a great design, a personable staff, a high level of expertise, a system that is easy to learn and adapt, and a group of people who truly love the Lord and desire to use their gifts to serve Him.

I look forward to staying connected with all of you and appreciate all you have done to help us launch Harvest Bible Chapel Denver!

    God’s richest blessings,
    Jeff

SatSaturdayAprApril3rd2010 Custom Designed Church Website for Harvest Bible Chapel - Peoria Harvest Bible Chapel in Peoria's design team wanted a new look for their website. They created a custom skin and worked with us to make it as interactive as possible.

Images at the top of the page emphasize Harvest Bible Chapel's values of Worship, Walk (with), Work (for), and Witness (for) Christ. And links in the middle of the page link to the church's online sermons, location, and mission. They've also utilized the Rotator Feature to display banners their design team created.

    Travis,

Just a quick thanks to let you know how much I appreciate the website. We have received many oohs and ahhs and we have not really pumped it yet. Next few weeks we will be directing our body at the web more and more as events are coming with sign up and we now can do it online!

Anyway, organization, features, simplicity of use for my staff…all great. Thanks.

St. John's Ev. Lutheran needed a website that could host information for both their church and school. Using iMinistries' Ministry Feature, they were able to create ministries for their church and display their school's classrooms. The result is two sites in one.

They chose the Simple skin for a clean, classic look and added a customized image on their front page to make it pop.

The “buzz” is starting… the “word” about the site and the 3/31/10 launch date continues to spread… many people are getting VERY excited about the website coming to fruition!...

Thanks...for helping Gary, Millie, and I build a strong, solid foundation for this website and making it become a reality.

TueTuesdayMarMarch30th2010 Harvest Bible Chapel - Tampa We started the project for Harvest Bible Chapel Tampa's website on March 15. We had the website populated and launched by March 25.

Utilizing the Harvest skin and customizing it to Senior Pastor Rich Culp's specifications (Culp went with the pewter and red accent colors of Tampa's NFL franchise, the Buccaneers), and our comprehensive Harvest Church Plant Package, site setup was a snap.

Not only is the website beautiful, functional, and versatile, [but] you and the folks at iMinistries are incredibly patient and helpful. As a preacher, I would rather stand up in front of 3,000 people than touch a single widget of a website. Before going into this process, I did not even know what a URL was or for that matter what three words begin with U...R…L unless they meant “U R a Loser Rich” when it comes to websites.

Now I am conquering website administration…I even know how to set up a Rotator...

You guys have been more than long-suffering to work with me over the phone because I could not even find the HELP button much less understand the lingo in the support desk. All that to say, iMinistries well reflects the servant-heart nature of our Lord. He said that the greatest in the Kingdom is the one who serves. Thanks for serving the Kingdom with great websites.

    Travis,

Man you have NO IDEA how fast and Incredible this is. When I did this with my last church, it was VERY LABOR intensive, more complicated, more expensive and not half as convenient to work on and in my humble opinion did not look near as good. If you want me to do a commercial for you, I will! :)

Thanks again for all your help and the quick responses!

Christian Tabernacle Church in Roselle, Illinois wanted a custom, unique look to their church website––a look-and-feel that reflected the personality of their congregation. Baron3, the designer of other custom skins, put together a sharp look using violets and pinks and incorporating their logo.

A church of around 200 attendees with no Flash expert on staff, they wanted an easy way to manage the rotating ads on their home page. This initiated the development of the Rotator Feature. So all that use this feature in the future have CTC to thank.

After their ministry website launched, we asked Potter's Field Ministries' Steve Venable, "You've worked with different website companies in the past. In your mind, what makes us different?"
"Yeah, I have worked with a few. iMinistries customer service, administrative interface, and ease of overall use is what makes it a much better choice for setting up and maintaining a website! Customer service is top-notch and the set-up experience, especially your willingness to port over existing content, was great (as usual). Also, the follow-up on issues and other related site specific needs was timely and consistent."
Nothing makes us happier than seeing another satisfied customer with control over their ministry website.

One easy way they can accomplish this on their church website is by customizing the Harvest skin to their ministry. Plants in Austin, Texas and Durham, Canada chose new colors, the images of their city's skyline, their pastors, and other themes, and a customized Harvest logo in their skin to give a fresh feel to an existing look.

The Harvest plant in Calgary, Alberta, chose to capitalize on its city's (and country's) love of hockey and incorporate it in its skin. Pastor Trevor Peacock selected the deep red of his city's hockey team, the Calgary Flames, and used it as his website's background color and the team's arena home as its header image. The result is a site that pops off the screen and immediately relates to its city's people.

With Peacock posting regular updates in his blog and with his Twitter feed embedded on his homepage, Calgary locals are sure to keep coming back.

SatSaturdayNovNovember21st2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Kansas City The new Harvest church plant in Kansas City went the way of the plants in Austin, Durham, and Calgary and customized the Harvest skin to their ministry.

Pastor Jeff Terrell chose a bright blue for his background and a Bible for his header and his blog is up and running.

MonMondayNovNovember9th2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Durham
Like Harvest's church plant in Austin, Texas, the new Harvest plant in Durham, Canada chose to customize the skin Baron3 created for founding Harvest on their church website. Pastor Ian Hales picked an open Bible and the image of wheat for his header and a rich blue for his background color.

Hales has embedded a Twitter feed on his site, links visitors to his Facebook page, and, using our Widget feature, has embedded his latest blog entries on to his homepage.

TueTuesdayNovNovember3rd2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Austin While Harvest's church plant in Austin, Texas prepares for its launch in fall 2010, its website is already up and running.

Customizing the skin iMinistries created for founding Harvest, Pastor Bryan Payne chose to display Austin's city skyline in his header and the local university's burnt orange for his website's background.

Payne has found it easy to utilize our Content Management System and has already posted several videos and regularly adds new entries in his blog to keep future church updated.

Hilltown Baptist in Hilltown, Pennsylvania has been a customer of iMinistries since January 2006. They wanted to freshen up their site and liked the look of our free skin, Colourise. However, they wanted to include their own background image in place of the "rainbow spectrum."

The result, after adding a banner and ad that a member of their church created, is a custom-looking site for a fraction of the price. Hilltown Baptist and Harvest Bible Chapel Joliet are the latest of a few churches to take one of our free skins and put their own touch on it.

Hilltown appreciates our many features and, that at a moments notice, you can give your website a dramatic face lift with a moments notice but without loosing existing content.
FriFridayOctOctober23rd2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Joliet The Harvest Bible Chapel plant in Joliet, Illinois came to us with a concept in mind. They liked our Grunge skin, but wanted to customize it to their specifications. The result was a new twist on an old favorite--Grunge Black.

This new skin, when combined with ads on the homepage and featuring the Harvest Joliet logo in the top banner, makes for a sharp, sophisticated look.
MonMondayAugAugust17th2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Founding Church You might already know that using a content management system to keep your website up to date has its advantages. But what do you do when you want to redesign your church's website?

Does it require a "Herculean" effort by many staff members? Are you forced to set up a brand new website or can a new design be applied to your existing content? There are a growing number of churches that have multiple locations now, so what if you need to expand your one website into multiple websites that are campus specific?

While we provide services to many small churches and organizations, we can also handle that "Herculean" effort.

Almost three years to the day, the founding Harvest Bible Chapel has successfully relaunched their website(s). This time, with a different flare though. Their previous website housed all of its ministries on each of their four campuses. We helped them transition to six campus-specific websites that their staff can manage.

Their main site, http://www.harvestbiblechapel.org, provides all-campus information and resources. It also acts as a springboard to the campus websites. This helped to solve their growing menu crowding and site clutter.

While there were many hours invested in the design, created by Baron3 Visual Communications, the actual process of going from one website to six took twelve hours and three staff members Friday night and Saturday morning. It was well worth it!

Check out the new campus sites by visiting the main site and clicking the campus links, or click on the links below.

MonMondayAugAugust10th2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Palos In September, Harvest Palos Heights will be officially opening its doors. The Palos/Oak Lawn area is located just 25 miles southwest of downtown Chicago and is rich in diversity having people of Polish, German, Irish, Hispanic, African American, Dutch, and Arab descent. They are excited to reach people representing many nations with the Gospel this fall.

The Senior Pastor of Harvest Palos came to us in January because he knew the importance of having a website for the public to learn more about him and the ministry of Harvest Bible Chapel. Their site launched in February and since that time, Ryan has noticed a continual up tick in website visitors on their website.
"As we near the launch date of our new church, every click on our website counts! Travis from iMinistries was amazingly helpful at maximizing our website to make the greatest impact on our visitors."

    Pastor Ryan Hall

We are excited to partner with another ministry that is faithfully serving the body of Jesus Christ.

We found this design on http://www.styleshout.com as well and just like Outdoor, have added it our free skins directory.  It's name is Simple because it is exactly that, clean and simple.  The typeface is very easy to read and the over all feel of the site is open and clean. We are pleased to announce the new website for Acucare Total Health. This website serves as a gateway to the Elgin community for clients can request an appointment, learn about what treatments Dr. Renee R. McMurry, D.C. and her staff offer, take a mini virtual tour of their office before their visit as well as learn about Acucare's community involvement

We are excited to have them aboard our system and many thanks go out to Nate Baron of Baron 3.  Here is an excerpt from his website about the launching of their website.

After some ups and downs as a medical practice, including the loss of a prominent mentoring doctor, a devastating fire and all the complications that come with a business going up in flames, AcuCare has chosen to rebirth their natural healthcare practice. The difference between the old offices and the new one is dramatic. It's also a well-deserved move, if you ask us.

Honored to be part of the relaunch, Baron3 was selected to rebrand the practice, and to help with everything from stationery to the website. The process has begun, as evidenced by the portfolio items already in the various portfolio sections. We're in the middle of photo shoots, website design and general branding practices. Please check back later for more exciting items that we are creating for AcuCare Total Health.

Being spatially aware is important. Just like a cluttered house can make you feel nervous on the inside, a cluttered website does the exact same thing. Cramming your website with as much content as possible isn't the best thing in the world. It leaves your users frustrated. You might "appear" bigger, but if no one wants to use your website, who really cares?

This skin is simple. We created it so that you don't ever have to load a header if you don't want to, or if you don't have someone on your team that can help in this area. Don't worry though, if you do...this is still a great skin to use!

This skin also has a wider viewport (the area were all of the text and images sit) which allows you to have more content on the screen before having to scroll down the page. Another benefit to having a wider skin is that it allows you to have one or two more top level menu items. People don't like digging for stuff, so the more that you can put your big ticket items in your menu, the better.

Another nice point about this skin is that it uses our new Quick Menu feature that we developed for Harvest Bible Chapel Oakville's skin. While their Quick Menu is interactive (a button that is in the upper right hand corner of their screen pulls down their Quick Menu), this one stays statically positioned in the footer

ThuThursdayMayMay21st2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Milwaukee South I was working with Jen Hawkins of Harvest Bible Fellowship yesterday, and we were looking at some of our existing customers websites together. We came across Harvest Bible Chapel Milwaukee, and I must admit that when I saw it, I felt a little bit of pride.

Harvest Milwaukee has been with us for two years, and they recently decided to put some extra effort into their website. They selected one of our free skins and had their worship pastor create a header for them. They also have spent a significant amount of time filling in the gaps by using highlights on various pages as well as trying to add as many thumbnails to their articles that they have posted. Their site has been transformed in a great way.

I wrote their Senior Pastor to encourage him in what I saw, and he had this to say:
"I love your product and would recommend it to anyone. It is disappointing to see some using the product, but not to its fullest potential. We still have a long way to go with blogging and groups...but we're getting there."

    Joe Martinez
Senior Pastor, Harvest Bible Chapel Milwaukee

I can not stress to you enough how simple our system is to use, you just have to spend a little, and I stress "little," time learning how the pieces work. We have a video tutorials available like this one on how to use our blog feature and many written help files which give you step-by-step instructions.

Like anything, you get out what you put in. I am very excited for Harvest Milwaukee and for their efforts.
TueTuesdayMayMay5th2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Oakville We placed a fresh coat of paint on the site for Harvest Bible Chapel of Oakville. In this itteration, we went in a different direction than their last custom design. As their church has grown and they have placed a larger emphasis on communicating online to their church body, they have found that their website has been filled with tons of information. At times, it can be hard to find quickly find items.

After plugging their Google Analytics account number into their iMinistries website, they found that a large portion of their viewers have larger screens than what they had just over two years ago. Because of this handy information, we were able to make the viewport, or the space that you see, much wider. This has allowed them to have more menu items and more content front-and-center without having to scroll down the page.

In addition, Harvest Oakville is the first to use another feature that we just created a few weeks ago--the Quick Menu. This new feature helps users find things quickly on your website. With just a click of a button, a detailed menu slides down, listing links which jump to hard-to-find items. While you can kind of see how it looks in the screen shot provided below, we encourage you to check it out yourself by either clicking on one of the images or visiting http://www.harvestoakville.ca.

ReFuel Fest is a Christian music festival in Delhi, Ontario, Canada that hosts various Christian artists. In 2009, Third Day, Skillet, Superchick, and many more will be performing live. They came to us in need of a website that they could maintain themselves instead of having someone else update it for them. Now that they are using iMinistries, they can update their website easily in more than just one facet.  From news and events to ads for the performing artists and sponsors, the folks at ReFuel can add and edit content at their convenience.

"I not only use iMinistries and believe it is one of the most innovative and helpful systems for any-size church, I also recommend it to my clients when they are looking for the best way to display and market their content."

MonMondayMarMarch2nd2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Glasgow, Scotland With the help of Harvest Bible Fellowship, iMinistries has been able to make the jump across the pond! Harvest Bible Chapel has planted a new church in Glasgow, Scotland lead by Senior Pastor, Scott Hamilton. And we at iMinistries couldn't be happier to be able to partner with Scott in reaching more souls for Christ, in a new country, and on a different continent.

"iMinistries have produced a website far in excess of our imaginings. It is striking, compelling, and faithful to the image that we would seek to present to a world watching our ministry as it grows and, we pray, flourishes."

    Scott Hamilton
Senior Pastor, Harvest Bible Chapel Glasgow
MonMondayMarMarch2nd2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - West Minneapolis Brent Halverson of Harvest Bible Chapel West Minneapolis launched his church in early 2009. He had previously been a pastor in Indiana, but felt the Lord calling him and his family north to Minnesota to plant a church. iMinistries worked with Brent, just as we do with so many pastors, to put his site online and in his hands to edit, post messages, and more.

"iMinistries has become an extension of our local church ministry. It's a partnership. We're more accessible now as a church plant because of our online presence. Travis and his team have made the process so easy. We gladly recommend iMinistries. Their partnership will maximize your ability to reach others for Jesus Christ!"

SunSundayMarMarch1st2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - North Indy Harvest Bible Chapel of North Indy was in the same boat as Harvest York Region. They had been using a free skin for almost two years before deciding to have us help them with a customized look for their front page. We worked with their worship director, Luke Newton, to develop graphics that reflected their ministry and header for their site. Their primary desire was to have a mixture of larger graphics as well as text on their homepage that was published automatically as it was created.

"Our website was in need of a fresh look and more user-friendly interface. With the help of Travis at iMinistries we were able to accomplish both of these elements all while staying within our given budget. iMinistries offered an amazing amount of insight and expertise to the design process all while using every resource at their disposal to understand exactly what we were looking for and delivering that to us. Not only has our site become a key communication piece in furthering the kingdom of God here in North Indianapolis, but it was also a joy to work with these guys and see their hearts for God in action. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a similar experience."

FriFridayFebFebruary20th2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - Miami Harvest Miami is another plant that launched in 2009. In February, Jason Fevig graduated from the Harvest Training Center and started his church in Miami. We were excited to join with Jason to create a fresh website that reflected sunny Miami, while containing all the functionality and ease of use that is the iMinistries trademark.

"iMinistires is a great ministry and terrific tool for the church. Our team was looking for a website that reflected the city Miami and yet communicated our passion. Travis and his team was able to meet and exceed our expectations. We will recommend them to any church organization looking for a brilliant website on a budget."

    Jason Fevig
Senior Pastor, Harvest Bible Chapel Miami
FriFridayJanJanuary9th2009 Harvest Bible Chapel - York Region In January, we unveiled a new look and feel for Harvest Bible Chapel York Region. They had previously been using one of our free skins for over a year and made the decision to go "all in" in the fourth quarter of 2008. We were excited for the opportunity to serve them in this way for it is one of our first websites which has an increased content space, as you can see from the screen shot below.

"iMinistries provided us with a valuable resource at very reasonable cost. The timeliness of their turnaround and the creativity of their design allowed us to clearly communicate the gospel and effectively provide our church with relevant content. We continue to use iMinistries, and would recommend them to any church or organization looking to develop their online presence on a budget."

By doing so, she was able to save Deer Creek a lot of money, all while creating the look that her church wanted.

"iMinistries provided amazing support throughout the redesign of our site. Through the online tutorials and efficient help ticket system, we were able to accomplish a polished professional look. iMinistires strives to provide user-friendly tools that have enabled us to improve and maintain our site with ease. The Artist Association program is a community of artists that have a passion for God’s Word and want to use the ministry God has entrusted to them to bring the Good News to the poor, oppressed, and those kept in darkness, without the light of hope found in Christ Jesus. Artist Associates encourage others to sponsor the translation of God’s Word for a specific people group–ultimately celebrating with them in hearing from God in their own heart language! The Artist Association is a partnership between The Seed Company’s OneVerse Program and the artist. Through their efforts, time and passion for music, they are an invaluable partner in connecting those that have God’s Word to those that don’t.

The website we created for them is vibrant, colorful, and "artistic" while still maintaining a clean look with tons of informative content.

"Our experience with iMinistries couldn’t have been better! iMinistries excels in their customer support. From thorough research in our ministry to make sure they were meeting our needs, the ease of the custom design and attention to detail, the online help tutorials on how to navigate the many benefits of their tools, and the easy maintenance. They are always coming up with new features to serve our needs. The personal attention to our needs was outstanding. I’ve never had such friendly, fast, and competent service before. They were a blessing to us!"

TueTuesdayOctOctober14th2008 Streaming Video Adding video to your church website has never been easier. You see, streaming video is not the easiest thing to "serve up" on end-user machines (that is, the people who are surfing on your website). I won't go into the details of:
    • Having the content encoded correctly
    • Uploading your content via FTP
    • Adding a page to your website and then using the HTML editor to add a bunch of code no one really understands
    • Dealing with various end users who have older computers or don't have correct settings
    • A seemingly endless sea of support questions
By now you are probably familiar with the name of YouTube. Well, I am about to introduce you to two new names that I have just come across. And they are even better, in my opinion. Vimeo and Viddler are your new friends, because they allow you to have much higher video quality and, even more importantly, you are not limited to YouTube's 10-minute-video-or-less limitation.

Once you have uploaded your video to any one of these providers, check out this video help file on how to add a YouTube video to your website.

This skin gives you the ability to make the homepage as different as you like, because of its wide-open, "blank canvas" feel. It is shown here with news items on the homepage, but the options for customization are vast. Instead of news, you could place graphics in any way that you feel would make the most impact. You could post informative articles including directions to your church, a direct link to your podcast, how to get involved in a specific ministry or ministries, and more.

TueTuesdaySepSeptember30th2008 Browsers: Switch or Upgrade...? We want you to have the best web experience possible. Because of that, we want you to think about the tools that you use when you are online. This post is geared specifically at web browsers.

    Browsers
Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox (FF), and Safari are the most mainstream browsers out there. The reason for this post is to encourage you to make sure that you are using the latest version of whichever browser you have chosen to use. To be perfectly honest, that comment is directed to anyone who is using IE for a browser, sorry.

IE doesn't play nice with the web community at large and is slowly beginning to change because people continue to switch. How do I know this? Check out the statistics that are found here at the w3schools website. You can see that users are upgrading to IE 7 from IE 6, but more importantly, users are switching all together to FF or Safari!

FF and Safari render the text and graphics on your website as they should and adhere to the rules of the Web community.

    Graphics Lesson
If you really love IE, then stick with it. Know that I will be praying for you. HA! In all seriousness though, the reason why I want to encourage you to update your IE version is because the websites that you visit will look better. This is because IE 7 finally decided to render graphic files with the file extension of PNG.

Images that you have probably heard of are JPG and GIF. PNGs trump these other formats because they are the best of what JPGs and GIFs have to offer. PNGs will render a gradient (fading from one color to another) without degradation (this is what a JPG does) as well as render a transparent background correctly (that is what a GIF does).

If you go to a website (with IE 6) and you see a strange box or a graphic that looks completely out of place, this is probably because the designer of the website needs to render a gradient (like a drop shadow on an image), and it needs to sit on top of another graphic without blocking the background image from view (thus needing transparency), so they are using a PNG. BUT...because IE 6 can't figure out what to do with the graphic, it renders the graphic with a whacked out color in the background.

If you would like to be uber nerdy, you can check out Wikipedia's explanation of JPGs, GIFs and PNGs by going here:

SunSundayJunJune1st2008 Harvest Bible Fellowship Because I was on staff with Harvest Bible Fellowship and was in charge of implementing a design that mirrored their latest brochure, I am unable to give a review of iMinistries. However, I can say that I really like this site because of the podcasting area which is found in the Resources section.  I believe that it really showcases our blog functionality for you can sort on a variety of authors or tags, years and even months. You should check it out.

"I'd like to say thanks to Travis and his team their for their brilliant web communications tool. We're in the beginning phases of implementing this tool for our church, but it is definitely going to change how our church communicates with its membership and external audiences. This single tool has shifted our communications from a rigid top down structure (i.e. church leadership to membership) to a more open, flexible, horizontal structure that empowers key ministry personnel and lay-leaders throughout the church to communicate directly, increasing communication speed and accuracy. More importantly, this tool will help ease the burden on key full-time staff.

"I am also extremely thankful for iMinistries’ robust suite of built-in communications tools--blogs, e-newsletters, forms/registrations, photo galleries, podcasting, shopping carts, and much more--all for one convenient price based on your church's size. As a vice president of a marketing communications firm that develops complex web sites for a living, I discovered I couldn't have my team develop a package from scratch, like iMinisties, for any less than $20,000 (far beyond the reach of my church’s web budget). For the price, the iMinistries tool is by far and away the best deal going.
"I also, found the iMinistries site is completely scalable to suit our church’s needs. So, we can grow the site both vertically and horizontally as well turn web features (i.e. blogs, galleries, newsletters, etc.) on AND off as our church sees fit.

"Best of all, thanks to iMinistries WYSIWYG content editing system – our church can maintain a relationship-building presence on the web without having a full-time web guru on staff. The content interface is very, very similar to a popular word processor, so populating and updating site content is a breeze. iMinistries even offers an array of how-to videos and searchable FAQs to assist even the most novice of users. But in the few instances I required deeper support, the iMinistries team was never anymore than an e-mail away.

"I could go on and on about the power and affordability of the iMinistries’ tool. However, I’ll just leave it here for now."

"We love iMinistries. As we were looking for a web provider that could handle all of our ministry needs, iMinistries just made sense. It has been a tremendous blessing to our church and so easy to use.

Harvest Bible Chapel Indy West was another Harvest church plant who turned to us for their web needs. We created a site for them that uses a similar format to our other Harvest plant sites, but still allows to show the church's unique personality.

This website for Solid Rock Youth Ranch looks a little bit different than some of the other church websites we've done, but the outcome is original, clean, and, as always, easy-to-use.

If you don't have anyone in your church that has a design eye or is able to create custom banners or ads for you, this skin might be for you. It was created with the intent of not ever needing a banner. The design features at the top serve as your banner.

Harvest Bible Chapel Naperville is another example of how a church can implement its personality, logo, color scheme, and vision into its website. Although it is a Harvest church plant, its website is as unique and representative of itself as its people.

"I am extremely pleased with our iMinistries experience. Our customized skin allows us to present a distinctive yet professional image, and the website itself is easily kept current and interesting by our non-technical staff. The iMinistries product is a godsend for a church with limited resources to devote to their web presence."

"I think you guys have done a great job with this. Our site is light years beyond what we would be able to do without your service. Our website has been an important part of our ministry. Most of our first-time visitors say they either discovered us through our site or at least visited our site before coming to get more information."
